Friends of Wharfedale Greenway is a group of volunteers dedicated to raising awareness and support for the creation of a greenway along the Wharfe Valley. Our mission is to connect communities, promote sustainable transportation, and preserve the natural beauty of the area.

The Wharfedale Greenway

The Wharfedale Greenway is a proposed walking, cycling, and horse riding route along the Wharfe valley. When built, it will link Pool-in-Wharfedale, Otley, Burley-in-Wharfedale, Ilkley, Addingham, and onwards to Bolton Abbey and the Yorkshire Dales. Planning for the Greenway is being led by Town and Parish Councils along the route, alongside Local Authorities and Sustrans, the custodian of the National Cycling Network.

Simply visit a Greenway or trail, capture a few pictures of what you’ve enjoyed during your visit, share them with us on social media, and complete a survey about what you’d like to see on the Wharfedale Greenway in the future. 2023 Public Engagement Survey Results

In the autumn and winter of 2023, FOWG ran a public survey exercise to establish current feeling towards the project, and to gather information about how often they might use the Greenway and which sections for what reasons, and what challenges or problems should be considered by those planning the Greenway. A sample size of 1,705 was achieved through an online questionnaire (4 times the responses we were initially hoping for).
